Quilts of Valor

Today I finished a top for Quilt of Valor, it was 95 degrees outside...a very good afternoon to sit at the sewing machine!   I love this pattern, it is called Summer Breeze and you can find it in Kim Brackett's Scrap-Basket Surprises.  This is the second time I have made this pattern, the first was done in pastels.

If you are interested in learning more about Quilts of Valor, you can check out the website.  Also, some Public Broadcasting television stations are airing a 2 hour special about the quilts and the people that make them as well as the recipients.  It is heartwarming, so I hope you will be able to view it.

I belong to a local QOV quilting bee, we meet again this coming Saturday.  It is a very prolific group of ladies!  If you would like to help out, we are always in need of fabric.  So if you are cleaning out your stash and have some fabric, 2 1/2 inch strips of fabric or a UFO quilt top that you think would make a nice quilt to give to a soldier or veteren, contact me, and we will be glad to take it off your hands.  Maybe there is a group close to you?  At any rate, it is a worthy cause!

Hope you are staying cool on these hot summer days...

Flying High

Our flag is what connects us.  We might have our differences, but we stand united in our freedoms.
Everyday there are men and women serving in the U.S. military.  They are protecting and defending our freedoms under the Stars and Stripes.....for all of us.

When June rolls around, I start pulling out my patriotic decorations.  I have always loved red, white, and blue!  Several years ago I made the quilt you see above...one of my all time favorites!

And another one of my favorites...know what?  I think all of them are my favorites!

May Little Quilts

And it's ready to quilt!  I had hoped to have it quilted by the end of May, but that did not happen.  This is from "The Civil War Sewing Circle" by Kathleen Tracy.  I changed it a bit by adding sashing.  It just looked a bit to busy without it.  Off to the next small quilt...wondering what she has in store for us for June?

I have to confess to my newest addiction.....Zentangles and Lineweaving.  You do not have to be an artist or even be able to draw...if you can hold a pencil, you can do it.  Just recently I participated in a swap of ATC's (Artist Trading Cards)  These are an example of my contribution, the theme was Sun Energy.  I chose flowers...sunshine does make them grow!

The next pictures are Zentangles....and I am such a tangle addict.  Now I have my little sketch book and pen with me all the time!  If you want to know more,  you can google the word Zentangle and you will find a wealth of information and inspiration!

Maybe you will soon have a new addiction too?
