Sewing Lessons

On Monday, my 7 year old grand-daughter came over and we had our first sewing lesson.  We made a cute little pillow.  Jordyn fussy cut the dogs and cats out of the fabric, and practiced some hand sewing, as well as machine sewing to attach the pillow.  Her favorite stitch on the machine is the zig-zag stitch.  It is a bare-bones machine, but great for a child to learn on. No matter how hard they put the foot pedal down, it will only go one speed!  Jordyn decided she really liked sewing, and was very proud of her first project. I have a feeling there are more to come!

Aren't grandkids great fun?

Grandies ARE great fun, especially if one has a girl to share that sort of thing with. Good for you to enjoy her, and good for Jordyn to make such a cute pillow!

How wonderful you can teach her this skill and share time together!

What fun for both of you. I see a budding quilter coming up!

yes they are great. I wish my granddaughter who is the same age could spend some time with me and learn to sew but she lives to far away :(

I love it when people show young children sewing basics. They may not take to it but there is always that chance. A special memory for you and her.

What a wonderful memory this will be for your granddaughter. Looks like she did a great job on her first project:)

I'm going to teach my 7-y.o. granddaughter to quilt. Our first lesson was machine-sewing the edges under on a large piece of flannel to make a "blankie". I can't wait for our next lesson. ;-)
